Noli me tangere

I met an old-time friend and we talked about the "new times". She has two sons, just like me. She wants grandchildren too, and we both feel the same way: perhaps it isn't a good time to bring children into the world?

The world is gearing up for war; this is evident in the rise in military spending. In Central Europe and the Baltic states, fears of the Russian bear have resurfaced – a bear that remains dangerous even when backed into a corner.

And I thought we would be the first post-war generation to leave this world without ever having experienced war.

How silly of me. After all, it’s not in human nature; history has shown this time and again. People living in peaceful times start looking for thrills to spice things up. For some, war is undoubtedly one such thrill. Look at how many young people are eager to get their hands on a weapon, how people like Trump, who call themselves Christians, publicly declare it a "great honour" to kill the other people.

This is human nature; perhaps that is why Christ preferred to leave rather than live amongst us. Perhaps even then he knew that people would follow their own path anyway, seeking easy solutions in life – touching his robe, confession, indulgences.

-Noli me tangere – this is not the way. Do not try to turn me back into a mortal; try to find your own path. I have shown you the way. Touching me will not sanctify you, but will defile me.

And he departed. All in all, I’m not surprised. From the height of the cross, he saw more: the vanity fair, the hatred.

The war.
