Dragon Wings
Yesterday I had to thoroughly rebuild one element of a story, because a deeper dive into history revealed that what I'd invented was impossible. But… But thanks to that correction, the plot became even more interesting! Long live history!
Sometimes the narrative structures I build in my head seem perfectly sound — until I confront them with historical or scientific facts. My semi-rigorous education forces my writing to keep its feet on the ground, but the child in me that survived the inexorable march of time craves and seeks a touch of magic in life and in the world.
It brings to mind an aeroplane with dragonfly wings — everything looks lovely, the cabin feels safe, but you're not going anywhere.
